Join the Friends of Gold Butte as we take a visit to our neighbor to the South, the Warm Springs Natural Area in Moapa, Nevada. This hidden gem is an oasis in the Mojave Desert, and is a 1250-acre property, formerly known as the Warm Springs Ranch. This unique area features more than two dozen bubbling springs, rushing streams and lush wetlands. It is also home to nearly 30 sensitive species, including the Moapa Dace, as well as over 200 species of birds.

Our group will meet at the entrance, and our guide, Linda Shapiro, will escort us on the tour. We will take a short 2/3 mile walk on a trail that meanders through woodlands along two spring-fed streams. The trail is perfect for bird-watching and and includes informational kiosks, benches and a viewing deck. For those of you who don’t usually venture out to Gold Butte National Monument becasue of the terrain, this is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature and learn about this unique preserve, while only walking a short distance along a manicured trail. Please wear sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat. Animals other than legitimately trained service animals are not allowed. Please practice Leave No Trace here as you would in Gold Butte.

Please, also, if you register to attend and find that you won’t be able to, let us know so we 1) can let people from the waitlist attend and 2) don’t wait around for you unnecessarily on the day of the tour.

Gold Butte National Monument is primitive and has no services of any kind. Event participants must bring and carry their own water, food, sunscreen, basic first-aid items, any medications (e.g., EpiPen or asthma inhalers, etc.) a participant may need, and any other supplies they may want or need while participating in the event. Participants must wear appropriate footwear for the event (for example, for trash-clean-up events, sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots would be appropriate). Participants are strongly encouraged to wear broad-brimmed hats and dress in weather-appropriate clothing when participating outdoors. Participants are reminded to be plant and animal aware at all times. Finally, if the event necessitates, participants are strongly encouraged to provide their medical information (pre-existing conditions, medications, etc.) and their Emergency Contact information (name and phone number) on a card or piece of paper in a sealed envelope with their name on the outside. The volunteer organizer will collect and hold the envelopes during the event and return them, unopened, at the conclusion of the event if they are not needed; and the assumption of risk statement found at In-person Assumption of Risk
