Friends of Gold Butte
Online event
Gold Butte National Monument is wild, (mostly) unspoiled and isolated, especially when it comes to communication with the “outside world.” Many people visit the monument for just that reason, to get away from everyday distractions, such as cell phones, internet and other intrusions. This is great, and allows people to recharge their inner batteries while communing with nature and enjoying the solitude. Great, that is, unless there is an emergency, in which case it may be difficult to contact help in a timely manner.
One method that can allow communication and potentially save lives is Ham Radio. Hardly a new thing, Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or cell phones. It’s fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need.
Did you know that there is a local group that can help you get started in this time-honored endeavor? The Virgin Valley Amateur Radio Club (VVARC) is teaming up with Friends of Gold Butte to bring you this interesting presentation. Join us as Johnny Rauzi and friends educate us about the VVARC and Ham Radio.
This presentation will be given by Zoom videoconference, and you may access the link to the presentation by registering below. If you are local to Mesquite, you may choose to attend the presentation live, at the STEAM Center in Bulldog Plaza, 312 W Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite, NV 89027.
