Join Frank Golden and the Friends of Gold Butte for a hike through a spectacular little wash that passes numerous balanced rocks, eroded red rock sculptures and even a short “slot” canyon. The hike is 4.5 miles (round trip) with elevation change of less than 100 feet. Most of the hike will be on gravel. It does have a few easy pour-overs, and some sandy spots as well as rocky spots. This hike is rated as moderate due to the distance. We will hike at a comfortable pace to allow for photography and observing wildlife.
All of our hikes are free and open to the public. Due to Covid-19 we are currently not offering carpooling. The trailhead is off of Mud Wash Road. As such, high clearance vehicles are required and 4×4 is recommended although all-wheel-drive vehicles should be able to make it.
We will meet at the junction of Gold Butte Road and Riverside Road (dirt parking lot) at 8:00am and hopefully return by 4:30pm.
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, and bring a wind-proof jacket and a hat. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, water, lunch, and snacks. Please be prepared to practice social distancing, and masks will be used when in close proximity of others. There are no stores or facilities in Gold Butte; be prepared to pee in the bushes.
We are pleased to offer our hikes free to the public. If you register and find you are not able to attend, please let the coordinator know, and/or take yourself off the “going” list. Failure to let us know in a timely manner will result in you being marked as a “no-show.” We understand that emergencies do happen, but please be courteous and let someone from the waitlist attend if at all possible.
