Optoutsidfe and work off some of that turkey dinner by spending a few hours in beautiful Gold Butte National Monument! Not everyone is practicing Leave No Trace, so join the Friends of Gold Butte as we pick up trash that others leave behind.
We will meet at the Friends of Gold Butte Road office, 12 W. Mesquite Blvd, Suite 106 at 9:00 am and caravan to the work site and spend some time picking up trash along White Rock Road to ensure that folks visiting “our” new vault toilet (and the rest of the monument) are given a good “first impression” as they begin their adventures. Be sure and wear weather-appropriate clothing, a hat, closed toed shoes and sunscreen, and bring plenty of water and a lunch or snack for yourself. Desert weather can be fickle, so be prepared.
We’ll be parking along the road, so you won’t need 4WD but high clearance is always helpful. If you have a regular sedan, we can see that you stay on the smoother portions of the road and you’ll be fine if you drive carefully.
FoGB will provide buckets and trash bags, but please bring your own gloves and wear clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
For all stewardship activities, tours and hikes within the monument: Gold Butte National Monument is primitive and has no services of any kind. Participants must bring and carry their own water, food, sunscreen, basic first-aid items, trekking poles, any medications (e.g., EpiPen or asthma inhalers, etc.) a participant may need, and any other supplies they may want or need while hiking. Participants must wear appropriate footwear (sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots). Participants are strongly encouraged to wear broad-brimmed hats and dress in weather-appropriate clothing. Participants are reminded to be plant and animal aware at all times. Finally, participants are strongly encouraged to provide their medical information (pre-existing conditions, medications, etc.) and their Emergency Contact information (name and phone number) on a card or piece of paper in a sealed envelope with their name on the outside. The volunteer guide will collect and hold the envelopes during the hike and return them, unopened, at the hike’s conclusion if they are not needed; and the assumption of risk statement found at Assumption of Risk.
