We are pleased to announce that President Obama has designated Gold Butte a National Monument!
Located between the Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Gold Butte is a treasure trove of cultural, historic, and natural wonders. Protecting Gold Butte ensures that people will be able to enjoy the beauty of Nevada’s piece of the Grand Canyon for generations that follow.
This incredible victory for our public lands was made possible because of the thousands of people like you in Nevada and across the country who joined Tribes, elected officials, business owners, community groups, and recreationists to call on our national leaders to safeguard a beloved landscape.
As the newest addition to the BLM’s National Conservation Lands, people will be able to continue to experience the Gold Butte through hiking, hunting, birding, camping, off-road vehicle riding on designated trails, and traditional tribal uses. Its marvels include thousands of petroglyphs, historic mining and pioneer-era artifacts, rare and threatened wildlife, dramatic geologic features like red sculpted sandstone and rock spires, and fossil sites that are now protected for future generations.
We want to thank you for your dedication and support for Gold Butte. Together we have accomplished an amazing goal. The work does not end here though. The Friends of Gold Butte is committed to continue our work to protect Gold Butte through education, stewardship, advocacy and preservation of cultural and natural resources. Please help us continue to protect the new Gold Butte National Monument with a contribution to the Friends of Gold Butte.
