Look for Friends of Gold Butte monthly membership meetings and speakers on our Meetup site. Mesquite members will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month and Las Vegas members will have occasional meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. Usually, we open at 6pm, members meeting @ 6:30, begin presentation at 7 and close by 8:30pm. Locations do vary so check the Meetup.
We have many volunteer projects to suit your talents and desires, from desert restoration to hosting visitors to our booth at public events. Again, check our Meetup site for upcoming dates. We also need volunteers to water the seedlings throughout the year. In addition, if you have specific skills you could bring to Friends of Gold Butte, such as legal, marketing, technical, etc., just contact us and let us know. We welcome you with open arms!
Friends of Gold Butte strives to accommodate as many members as possible though we do have some restrictions on group sizes through the BLM. We conduct outings and hikes during the week and on the weekends. Most of our hikes are casual strolls through history or a moderate distance for views of the wild country. Some hikes are to the peak; others are around it. Check our Meetup site for dates.
Our recent hike to Billy Goat Peak separated the real Billy Goats in the crowd! Of the 6 of us only three made the peak this day. Spots of snow covering the north slope made blazing the trail challenging. For those of us that only made it half way an incredible view of the landscape was enjoyed. The 360 degree view included the Virgin Mountains, Lake Mead, the rugged ridges of southern Gold Butte and the Grand Wash Cliffs in AZ.
