It has been a long time since Friends of Gold Butte has had any outdoor activities, due to the summer heat and also Covid-19 restrictions. We do plan to hold hikes, trash clean-ups and other outdoor activities this fall and it is FoGB’s policy that each outdoor activity have a minimum of one person trained in Wilderness First Aid. To facilitate that, we have provided training to a number of volunteers. For those of you who have Red Cross WFA certification currently, this training will re-certify you. The training will take place at the FoGB Visitor Center and will be made available via Zoom so so may remain at home if you wish and still participate. The training is two days, Thursday September 10 and Friday September 11, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days, unless we finish earlier. We will be recording the training so if you absolutely cannot participate at this time, it will be available to you later, although it’s much better in real time so any questions, clarifications, etc. can be addressed as they arise.
Charyn McDonnell has graciously agreed to provide this training, and there will be no charge except for the actual Red Cross card. All supplies will be provided to you, if you choose to attend in person. We will adhere to Covid-19 rules, in that social distancing will be practiced and masks must be worn. You will need to bring your own PPE, lunch, snacks and plenty of water. We will break for lunch approximately mid-way through each day.
We encourage any volunteers who wish to do so to become certified, even if you do not feel like leading hikes at this time. We organize this training every two years, so please consider attending the certification training this fall if you are able. If you are new to the organization and/or not currently Red Cross certified, we will be holding a 3-day training later in the season to allow people to certify for the first time. This two-day training, unfortunately, does NOT allow you to certify for the first time or if your card has been expired for more than 60 days. Date and time TBA.
