Join Jim Boone and the Friends of Gold Butte for a weed eradication project, hikes and overnight adventure. There is an infestation of Horehound (Marrubium vulgare) at the campsite atop Whitney Pass. We will caravan to the work site, pull/dig weeds in the parking area for a couple hours and then take a short hike. We will then return to Whitney Pocket and camp there overnight. Tuesday morning we will take another short hike, and then head for home. Monday and Tuesday will be the coolest days next week, and the higher elevation should make for a pleasant day. The weeds are in the parking area, so we shouldn’t have any issues with disturbing soils.
If you aren’t able to stay overnight, please consider participating in just the weed pulling and/or hike. If you do stay overnight, you will need your own tent and bedroll, or if you choose you may sleep in your vehicle.
You will need to bring plenty of water, food and snacks for yourself, as well as whatever items you will need to camp comfortably. Please wear layers, as the daytime temps will be warm and the nights can get quite cool. Please bring gloves, sunscreen, a hat and hand sanitizer. A shovel will also be helpful, but we will supply trash bags. If you have questions please call 702-613-5875.
