Join the Friends of Gold Butte as Steve Dudrow leads an easy hike walking from Truck Ranch to the great scenic view of Gold Butte’s Bowl of Fire, looking down into Whitney Wash. The road in to the old ranch is rough, so 4 X 4 is a must, and know you will get some “desert pinstriping” on your vehicle. We will meet at 8:00 AM at the junction of Gold Butte Road and Highway 170, and shoot to be back at the meetup location by 4:00 PM.
Please wear layers, appropriate closed-toed shoes, a hat, sunscreen and lip balm. The desert weather can be fickle at this time of year, so be prepared. Bring a camera, plenty of water, a lunch and snacks for yourself. A walking stick will be helpful, and a small first aid kit is always a good idea.
Remember there are no amenities in Gold Butte, other than a portable toilet at Whitney Pocket. Be prepared to practice “Leave No Trace” ethics, and pack out everything you bring in.
Due to Covid 19, we are unable to provide carpooling at this time, so please be sure your vehicle is prepared for the terrain. Our hikes are open and free to the public, but please, if you register for this hike and find you are unable to attend, please let us know in plenty of time so someone from the waitlist may attend.
