We know it’s last-minute, but tomorrow is going to be the best day weather-wise for a few days, so we’ve decided to take a hike!
Join Charyn McDonnell and the Friends of Gold Butte as we explore Doodlebug arch and Amber Cat Canyon. You will see red and white sandstone formations and a neat little arch we’ve dubbed “Anteater” as well as a beautiful Joshua tree forest during this moderate 4.5 mile hike. We will meet at 8:00 am at the junction of Gold Butte Road and Highway 170 and caravan to the trailhead. The road is roughly paved, and 4WD is not required. All of our hikes are free and open to the public.
For all hikes, please wear sturdy shoes, breathable clothes, and a hat. It’s a good idea to dress in layers. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, water, lunch, and snacks, and don’t forget your PPE and hand sanitizer. We will be practicing social distancing, so please be cognizant of your proximity to others. There are no stores or facilities in Gold Butte; be prepared to pee in the bushes.
With Covid restrictions in place, we also have had to reduce the number of people for each of our outings. We are sorry about that, and hope it is a temporary thing. Keeping that in mind, please adhere to social distancing protocol at all times and please do not attend if you’re feeling ill or have symptoms. Masks will be required when in close proximity of others.
Please be considerate of those who may not have had the opportunity to experience a particular hike, if you have already been there several times. In fact, if you are experienced you may want to consider volunteering with us to lead a hike or two to your favorite places. Please let us know, we are always looking for new volunteers!
