It’s been a long hot summer, but there is relief in sight! Join the Friends of Gold Butte as we partner with the Bureau of Land Management to spruce up Gold Butte National Monument. We have chosen to hold “our” NPLD a few weeks later than most places, to escape the heat that seems to be holding well into September. We will be working in the Cabin Canyon area, in the Northern part of the monument, so it is likely going to be a few degrees cooler than on the desert floor. Our project will include a trash cleanup, graffiti removal and sign installation. If we fill the Meetup and a waitlist is generated, we will send additional people out with crew leaders in small groups to install additional signage.
We will gather at the Friends of Gold Butte visitor center, 12 W. Mesquite Blvd, Suite 106 in Mesquite, and caravan to the work site. As per BLM policies, there will be forms to fill out, but those will be emailed to you before the event, so you can print and complete them at home, thus expediting everything on the morning of the event. If you are unable to print the forms, we will have extras on the day of the event.
There will be social distancing protocols in place during the day for everyone’s safety. We will provide buckets and trash bags as always, but
please bring your own PPE, gloves, a sack lunch and plenty of water. Please wear closed-toed shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen and a hat.
For the road up to Cabin Canyon, a carefully driven sedan will be fine, but high clearance is recommended. If we develop additional sign installation crews, those will require 4WD. Because Covid is still an issue, we will not be offering carpooling from the Meetup, but if you arrive with someone who is not a member of your household, it is understood that you both are comfortable with that situation.
Attendees will receive a commemorative T-shirt so please register and join us to do something good for Gold Butte!
