Join James and Jenny Conwell and the Friends of Gold Butte as we hike Whitney Wash. Whitney Wash is an interesting hike into a box canyon that hides striking red sandstone cliffs overtopped by towering limestone (http://birdandhike.com/Rocks/Sedi/_Sedi_index.htm) mountains. The hike is short, only 3.5 round-trip miles to a low knob with grand views all around, but hikers are free to explore farther up the canyon and scramble on the scenic canyon walls.

We will meet at the junction of Gold Butte Road and Riverside Road (dirt parking lot) at 9:00 am and expect to complete the hike by 4:00pm.
All of our hikes are free and open to the public. We are currently not offering carpooling, because of Covid-19. We will be parking near the paved Gold Butte Road, so sedans are fine for this hike.

For all hikes, please wear sturdy shoes, breathable clothes, and a hat. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen, water, lunch, and snacks. Though the trail is not steep, we will be walking on uneven surfaces that are a mixture of gravel and rounded stones. You will be required to step over some larger stones, so a hiking stick may be helpful. Hiking boots with ankle support are recommended. There are no stores or facilities in Gold Butte; be prepared to pee in the bushes. We practice Leave No Trace ethics so be prepared to carry out everything you bring in.
