Join Charyn McDonnell and the Friends of Gold Butte in a stroll along Gold Butte’s “battleship” rock formations. This is not set trail, but rather crossing the landscape from Red Rock Springs to these large rock formations at the base of Bitter Ridge. These rock formations have their own unique erosive characteristics that is seen on a grand scale. The drive in is highly recommended to be 4WD and it will be lots of washboards from Whitney Pocket to Red Rock Springs. The hike is expected to be 4 to 5 miles RT and minimal elevation/gain loss. Due to limited parking the group size is limited to 8.
You will need to bring plenty of water, and lunch and snacks for yourself. Wear weather-appropriate clothing (layers are best), closed toed shoes, sunscreen and a hat. A walking stick may be helpful, and remember your camera! Leave No Trace principles will be followed, so be prepared to pack out everything you take in.
PPE will be required when in close proximity of others, and unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will not be offering carpooling. Please also let us know and stay home if you’re feeling ill or have been exposed to anyone ill with Covid-19. We ask that you be mindful of your proximity to others, and respect social distancing protocol.
You will be emailed a waiver to print, fill out and sign a few days before the event if you’ve registered to attend. Please bring it with you to the Meetup.
