Join Charyn McDonnell and the Friends of Gold Butte in a stroll along Gold Butte’s “battleship” rock formations. This is not set trail, but rather crossing the landscape from Red Rock Springs to these large rock formations at the base of Bitter Ridge. These formations have their own unique erosive characteristics, on a grand scale. 4WD is recommended and it will be washboard from Whitney Pocket to Red Rock Springs. The hike is expected to be 4-5 miles RT and minimal elevation/gain loss. Due to limited parking the group size is limited to 10.
You will need to bring plenty of water, and lunch and snacks for yourself. Wear weather-appropriate clothing (layers are best), closed toed shoes, sunscreen and a hat. A walking stick may be helpful, and remember your camera! Leave No Trace principles will be followed, so be prepared to pack out everything you take in. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will not be offering carpooling.

I acknowledge that FoGB carries a limited accident insurance for participants in FoGB activities and the total medical expenses exceeding policy limits are my responsibility.
PREPARATION: I understand that it is my responsibility to evaluate the difficulties of any FoGB activity I participate in, and decide whether I am prepared by having the experience, skill, knowledge, equipment, and the physical and emotional stamina to participate safely.
Medical Condition: I understand the health and physical condition requirements of this activity. Medical conditions or physical limitations that may occur should be explained to the hike leader.

I will be responsible and inform FoGB staff if I become ill or experience symptoms within two weeks after any FoGB-sponsored activity.
