Due to the overwhelming number of people on the waitlist for the last one, Steve Dudrow has graciously agreed to lead another A-Frame Rock hike!
Let your eyes soak in the beauty of Gold Butte as we take a less often walked path. This is a moderate to easy hike of around 4 miles roundtrip to some pretty unique red rock formations, one looking like an A-Frame cabin, one like the Titanic and another a Mini-Dumbo the Elephant. We will enjoy walking mainly in washes and traverse one really cool narrow slot canyon. We will need to walk softly as in between washes there is quite a bit of biocrust.
You should bring plenty of water, lunch and snacks for yourself. Dressing in layers is best, as the desert can be both cold and warm during the course of the day at this time of year. Wear closed-toed shoes, sunscreen and a hat. We are requiring PPE when in close proximity of others, and please fill out and sign the release form before arriving at the Meetup.
You will need a high clearance vehicle, preferably 4WD. Due to Covid-19, we are not offering carpooling, so please be sure your vehicle is adequate and that you have plenty of fuel and are equipped to change a tire if need be. There is very limited parking, and in an effort to do less damage to the abundant biocrust in the area, we are limiting this particular hike to 6 participants.
We are being optimistic as we schedule this hike, in light of the recent cancellations of other activities due to Covid-19 restrictions suggested by the Governor. Hopefully we can continue to offer smaller group outings in the monument, and we are grateful for your continued patience as we attempt to serve as many people as possible while maintaining safe distancing protocol.
