Junction of Highway 170 & Gold Butte Rd.
Mesquite, NV, US
Join Charyn McDonnell and the Friends of Gold Butte for a last-minute hike! This is about a 5 mile loop out that starts at Red Rock Springs, walks around the Battleship area and then walk along a wash that has year round water in parts of the draw including a 15 foot waterfall with not much water this year, but nevertheless, there is a waterfall. Due to no shade and warm weather, we will meet at the Hwy 170/Gold Butte Kiosk at 6:00 AM. YES, that is SIX O’CLOCK in the AM, Pacific Daylight Time!
The drive in is recommended to be 4WD and high clearance; it will be lots of washboards from Whitney Pocket to Red Rock Springs. Due to limited parking the group size is limited to 6 vehicles, including the organizer. Persons from the same household may obviously travel together, but otherwise there will be no carpooling due to Covid. Total group size will be limited to 10 people.
You will need to bring plenty of water, and lunch and snacks for yourself. Wear weather-appropriate clothing (layers are best), closed toed shoes, sunscreen and a hat. A walking stick may be helpful, and remember your camera! Leave No Trace principles will be followed, so be prepared to pack out everything you take in.
PPE will be required when in close proximity of others, and unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will not be offering carpooling. Please also let us know and stay home if you’re feeling ill or have been exposed to anyone ill with Covid-19. We ask that you be mindful of your proximity to others, and respect social distancing protocol.
