Join the Friends of Gold Butte as Samantha Rubinson discusses the Nevada Site Stewardship Program!
The Nevada Site Stewardship Program (NSSP) coordinates over 200 volunteer site stewards state-wide in monitoring cultural resources for federal and state agencies. Over the last several years volunteer site stewards and UNLV/CSN interns have assisted NSSP with expanding baseline knowledge of monitored archaeological sites to increase our ability to preserve and understand them. The NSSP also provides stewards workshops and speakers to increase their knowledge of archaeology and field skills. In addition to our stewarding efforts, we also invite the public to report on damage that they find at sites anywhere in the state of Nevada through our online public reporting form for damage to archaeological sites.
Samantha Rubinson has worked for the Nevada State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) running the Southern Nevada SHPO office, coordinating the Nevada Site Stewardship Program and conducting SHPO trainings for state personnel for the past thirteen years. Samantha has a Ph.D. in archaeological sciences from the University of Bradford, U.K., and an undergraduate degree in Geosciences from the University of Arizona.
