While we like to call Gold Butte National Monument our office, most days we are actually working at our nicely air-conditioned office located at 12 W. Mesquite Blvd Mesquite, Ste 106. NV 89027. Besides the administrative and storage functions, our space serves as a quasi-visitors’ center where you can drop in and learn more about the monument or discover what the Friends of Gold Butte is all about.
Our walls are adorned with interpretive displays that describe the geology, ecology, and human habitation of Gold Butte, as well as art and photography of the monument. There is a section where you can pick up information about Gold Butte and other nearby public lands. Friends of Gold Butte staff or volunteers can give you directions to popular destinations such as Little Finland, Whitney Pocket, and the Gold Butte Townsite. We will also be able to sell our t-shirts, hats, and the new 2018 Gold Butte map. This is by far the most detailed map of the area ever produced, and it’s super helpful if you’re aiming to explore the areas less traveled.
Already, the office has served as a handy home base, with our native seed collection crew using the space to process their collected seed this season. We now have the option to host our upcoming Fall volunteer trainings at the new office. We are excited to see our space evolve and become an asset to our volunteers, organization, and local community. If you’re interested in volunteering your time or learning more about the monument, please come stop on by Monday through Friday between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
