Seed Collection Day in Gold Butte!

May 19 @ 7:30 am - 1:30 pm

• What we’ll do
Come on out and help collect crucially needed native seeds in Gold Butte National Monument! We will meet at the Friends of Gold Butte Mesquite Office at 7:30 am and caravan to the work site along both Gold Butte Road and Fisherman’s Cove Road. Be sure to dress appropriately for the hot weather (93°), and wear something you don’t mind getting dirty. Frank Golden will be your group leader and will identify which plants we will be collecting seeds from.

The seeds that are collected today will be grown at a nearby nursery. The mature plants are brought back to Gold Butte to be planted in areas that need restoration. By planting native plants we can prevent invasive weeds from completely taking over disturbed areas as well as return the area to its natural state. Seeds that Friends of Gold Butte collected in the past were used to help restore the fire scars on the south side of the monument.

• What to bring
Bring plenty of water and snacks for yourself, and remember to wear sunscreen, closed toe shoes and a hat.

• Important to know
Please provide your phone number so the organizer can confirm with you before the start of the event.
