Native Seed Collection Training and Field Day

March 17 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

• What we’ll do
This is a classroom and field training. For the classroom component, we will meet in Mesquite at 9am, location TBA. Melissa Sanders, the Arid Lands Restoration Specialist with BLM will cover plant ID of pressed samples and our collection protocols. Then we will head out to Gold Butte for a field identification. This training will prepare us for a season of seed collection for the BLM’s native seed collection program, Seeds to Success. A small sample of seeds are collected from the field for propagation in greenhouses for future restoration projects and research to preserve and understand the genetic diversity of the Mojave desert. More information about the Seeds For Success program can be found on this link: https://www.blm.gov/programs/natural-resources/native-plant-communities/native-plant-and-seed-material-development/collection
