July 5th, 2010This is just a reminder that with the summer heat comes the fire season. The higher than normal winter precipitation has created a blanket of non native grasses producing a high fuel load for the fire season. Mid July brings the “monsoon” season with wet and dry thunderstorms, sparking back country wildfires.Public land managers have posted fire prevention tips and restrictions.
Gold Butte needs Nevadans to voice their defense of it
July 6th, 2010Recently, near the end of June, I was in Gold Butte as the day’s light softly faded away. A lithe summer breeze wrapped its arms around me and I waited for my scheduled appointment with the moon and stars. On that day the peace of Gold Butte called so loud that an evening visit could not be postponed.
