Education Program

One of our missions is to provide educational programs to our community on the importance of preserving forever homes for our native animals, insects, and birds. Through grants we have been able to purchase plush toys that resemble “critters” native to our state.  Using these toys as the hands on center of our program we impart educational information on each of the following:

Big Horn Sheep, Bobcat, Burrowing Owl, Coyote, Desert Cottontail Rabbit, Desert Tortoise, Kangaroo Rat, Kit Fox, Mountain Bluebird, Mountain Lion, Raccoon, Red Tail Hawk, Roadrunner, Rock Squirrel, Tarantula.

Our program is interactive and all participants assist with the presentation.

How far can a mountain lion jump?  We unravel a rope that shows just how far that is.  What does the Big Horn Sheep have in his horns that we have somewhere on our body?  Do you know the length of a Red Tail Hawk’s wings?  What kind of footprint does a Roadrunner make in the sand?  How does a Tarantula feel in your hand?

All of the above and lots more will be answered during our program.  We also show you just how beautiful Gold Butte Nevada is and why it is important to all the “critters” we will be talking about.

Grandma Terri (Terri Robertson) is a fourth generation Nevadan and a long time preservation activist.  Her work began with Red Rock over 40 years ago.  Grandma Annie (Annie Hoskin) is a long time Nevadan.  She is a retired teacher who loves the outdoors and being with children.
