Volunteer Projects

Friends of Gold Butte will plant 100 native plants in the falling man area on National Public Lands Day (9/26/09).  We will need volunteers to water the seedlings throughout the year.  The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists have asked for assistance this season.  We will be cleaning up the experiment plots we cared for in 2008-2009 field season.  Mark your calendar for October 16 and 17, 2009 and check our blog for more details.  http://friendsofgoldbutte.blogspot.com/ or email Nancy @ friendsofgoldbutte@gmail.com

Hikes

Friends of Gold Butte strives to accommodate as many members as possibly. We conduct outings and hikes during the week and on the weekends. Most of our hikes are casual strolls through history or a moderate distance for views of the wild country. Some hikes are to the peak; others are around it. Check our blog for dates.

Our recent hike to Billy Goat Peak separated the real Billy Goats in the crowd! Of the 6 of us only three made the peak this day. Spots of snow covering the north slope made blazing the trail challenging. For those of us that only made it half way an incredible view of the landscape was enjoyed. The 360 degree view included the Virgin Mountains, Lake Mead, the rugged ridges of southern Gold Butte and the Grand Wash Cliffs in AZ.
