The Friends of Gold Butte is a citizen-based organization that works for the preservation and protection of historic, prehistoric, and natural resources in the Gold Butte area.
Gold Butte is a southeast Nevada landscape filled with rugged mountains, sandstone outcroppings, and unique historic features. Its entire 360,000-acre area is imprinted with the history of pioneers, miners, and Native Americans.
Long-time residents have seen an enormous increase in visits to this unprotected area. There is ongoing loss due to vandalism, theft of artifacts, and off-road damage to the landscape. The only way to ensure that Gold Butte's rich assets survive for future generations to enjoy is to provide on-site management, information, education, and consistent law enforcement. To that end, the Friends of Gold Butte seeks permanent preservation and protection of the Gold Butte area through designation as a National Conservation Area.
